OM
ALLAN
I was born on 20 November 1953 in Klawer, a small town on the west coast of South Africa. I am a double Scorpio.
When I was five years old, the circus came to town. My brother and I watched the flying trapeze act from the USA and made each other a promise: that is what we will do when we grow up. Lee Stath, the catcher on the flying trapeze, later became my mentor and teacher.
At ten, living in Cape Town,
I discovered books on yoga at the library.
I began practising headstands and pranayama breathing — my first real taste of the FeelGoodFlow state in body and mind. My search for understanding how breath, body, and the power of the mind can increase wellbeing, joy, and love began there.
At twelve, I started training as a trapeze catcher at a circus school in Observatory, Cape Town. In the evenings I worked backstage at the Alhambra Theatre to save money for the journey to Europe. The flying trapeze would be my ticket out of South Africa and into a new world of adventure.
At sixteen, we left South Africa by ship. Our first season was in Germany. I remember the overwhelming feeling of joy at having realised my childhood dream — a whole new world was waiting.
I performed professionally on the flying trapeze for eight years. My brother and I were among the very few acts in the world able to perform the triple somersault. Before every performance, I used breathwork and the power of the mind to raise my energy and presence. During the act — especially in the critical moment of catching the triple — I often found myself in a state of complete flow. Time stood still. I forgot myself. All my senses were wide open, my reflexes razor-sharp, and I seemed to know what my brother would do before he did it. Everything felt effortless and harmonious.
I learned to let go and enter flow. It felt extraordinary.
I often thought to myself: there must be a way to access this natural state without all the hard work — and without risking my life. I was determined to find it.
I settled in Denmark in 1978. In the mid-eighties I began studying Rebirthing, Tibetan Buddhism, and the Chinese Taoist system. I followed the Tibetan teacher Namkhai Norbu for many years, studying the Dzogchen tradition. I studied with the Irish teacher Bob Moore, who worked with meditation, energy circulation, and the subtle body. I read extensively in the work of Mantak Chia. Together with my wife Charlotte, I taught meditation in groups.
Gradually, the pieces of the puzzle came together. Through deep study of epigenetics, I found the biological foundation for these experiences. I have brought all of it — the trapeze, the philosophy, the science, the practice — into a simple, accessible training programme for love, wellbeing, longevity, and joy.
